Principal's Message

Dear Laurel Family,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! I am thrilled to serve as the principal of Laurel Street Elementary School, where we prioritize both academic excellence and the social-emotional well-being of our students.

This year, we will continue to focus on providing every child with the support they need to reach their fullest potential. We believe that all students can succeed with the right guidance, and we take this responsibility seriously. To that end, we will offer various interventions during the school day, as well as after school and on Saturdays. We are also excited to enhance our STEAM programs, including opportunities in coding, robotics, art, drama, and music.

I’m proud to share that Laurel Street Elementary remains the top elementary school in CUSD for English Language Arts, with 56% of our students meeting or exceeding standards on the CAASPP. Additionally, for the 2024 math CAASPP, 50% of our students achieved similar results. It is important that we continue to work together to improve student outcomes for all students in the areas of English Language Arts and math for the 2024-2025 school year!

Please keep in mind that parent involvement is vital to your child’s success, and we ask that you continue to play an active role in their education. Consider volunteering, attending workshops, participating in school site meetings, and joining us for school-wide events. I also recommend downloading the ParentSquare app, which we use for important updates and communication. You can easily reach out to your child’s teacher or our administrative team through the app. Please know that I have an open-door policy and am here to support you in any way I can.

I look forward to partnering with you to create a thriving environment for our students. Once again, welcome to a new school year!

Warm regards,

Rachel Collins
